In January of 2020 my wife and I purchased our first coffee roaster from Mill City Roasters. Neither of us knew anything about roasting coffee and she thought I was crazy. We just wanted to make coffee that is full of flavor and enjoyable from the first taste. Coffee you can drink black, without artificial flavoring.
My Mom always said that when I set my mind to something I am very passionate about doing it right. I was intrigued by the science behind roasting coffee and wanted to learn everything possible about coffee and the flavors that most commercial brands lacked. We researched different countries beans and the distinct characteristics each had. Ethiopian coffees tend to have strong notes of chocolate, strawberry and raspberry.
South American Countries have more nutty characteristics and Central American coffees are sweet, sugary flavors.
The biggest takeaway was that all of this depended on how the coffee beans were roasted. It blew me away how much there is to learn. So we bought the roaster and learned from YouTube and classes that Mill City Roasters had available. We did more private training that focused on roasting and helped us hone in on our skills. We spent the summer roasting and drinking coffee while promoting our brand and selling it at the local farmers market .
August of 2020 we purchased the building that is now Sparkys Craft Coffee Roastery . Through countless hours of blood, sweat and a lot of hard work, we were able to breathe new life into this old run down building.
Our goal has and always will be to bring you the best coffee possible and to roast it to its maximum potential.
